Frequently Asked Questions

What types of vehicles can I donate?
Special Olympics Louisiana accepts almost all running and non-functioning car donations. Vehicles such as trucks, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, planes, heavy machinery, trailers and RV’s are accepted on a case-by-case basis. You’ll need to have a clear title in order to complete your vehicle donation. The vehicle should have at least three inflated tires and be in a tow-accessible location, such as a driveway or on the street. If you have questions about a vehicle you’d like to donate, call us at (888) 828-0022

How do I transfer a car title in Louisiana?
You will transfer your title by writing the name of our authorized agent, Advanced Remarketing Services, in the buyer/purchaser field. Please print and sign your name in the seller/owner field exactly as it appears on the front of the title. If you’re not sure where to sign, call our processing center at (888) 828-0022 and a customer service representative will walk you through the process.

Do Louisiana titles have to be notarized?

The state of Louisiana requires your title to be notarized in order for the transaction to be valid. Print and sign your name as the seller in the presence of a notary. Your title can be notarized at most banks or at your local city hall.

How much money will Special Olympics receive from my car donation?

Our trusted partners at Advanced Remarketing Services return 75-80% of the gross proceeds from the sale of your car back to Special Olympics, the highest of any vehicle donation program!

Does my car donation qualify for a tax deduction?

Yes, you may be eligible for a tax benefit. Within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle, you will receive an email which contains a tax receipt for your car donation. If your car sold for over $500, you can claim the full selling price on your taxes. If it sold for less than $500, you can claim the fair market value up to $499. Please consult with your tax advisor on the best way to claim your car donation tax deduction.
